WATCH ME GROW
From tiny newborn to my new home
From here you can follow all of my updates—from the first day my eyes open to my first outdoor playtime and everything in between. Each week, a new group of photos will be added so you can watch me grow. Right now my adventures may be mostly sleeping and eating, but before you know it, I’ll be carrying this red lizard all around the house and yard!
· NEW TO THE WORLD · The first 24 hours
Red Boy is already putting those tiny legs to work, scooting and wobbling his way around his new little world. After all that exploring, though, his red chameleon seems to make a pretty comfortable place to curl up and rest.
Off to Explore!
These Legs Are Tricky...
Still Going!
Exploring Is Exhausting
WEEK ONE · GROWING & CHANGING
Red Boy has had a busy second week! He had his first veterinary checkup and dewclaws removed, and weighed in at 1.66 pounds on September 2. His nose and little toe beans are beginning to darken as his pigment comes in, and he’s getting stronger and more mobile every day. His red chameleon is still close by, although now it seems to be just as useful for climbing on as it is for cuddling.
“Look at these little legs go!”
“Chameleon climbing practice”
“Still keeping my buddy close”
“Growing some very fancy toe beans” 🥹🐾
WEEK TWO · EYES OPEN & ON THE MOVE
Red Boy is growing quickly and weighed 2.66 pounds on September 11. At two weeks old, his eyes are now open, and the black pigment is beginning to fill in around his nose and mouth while those little toe beans are still mostly pink. He’s getting steadier and more mobile every day—and he’s apparently decided it’s also time to find his voice, with his first attempts at howling. Between exploring, climbing over his orange lizard, and practicing his tiny howl, Red Boy is beginning to look a whole lot less like a newborn and more like a little puppy. ❤️
“These legs are working much better now!”
“Oh, hello again.”
“Look! My eyes are open!”
“I think I’ve got this climbing thing figured out.”
WEEKS THREE & FOUR · GROWING, LEARNING & EXPLORING
Red Boy weighed in at 4.04 pounds this week, and his world has gotten a whole lot bigger! Over the past two weeks, he’s had his first taste of puppy gruel, ventured outside onto the covered porch, and met some of his very first visitors. He’s getting steadier on those growing legs and much more interested in exploring everything around him—including his orange buddy, who is becoming less of a pillow and more of something to investigate and play with. There’s a lot to discover when you’re this little, and Red Boy seems quite ready to get started. ❤️
“Just checking on my orange buddy…”
“I’m getting pretty good at this puppy thing.”
“Look at me—I’ve got legs!”
“Okay, now what does this thing taste like?”
Week 5 – Red Boy ❤️
What a busy and exciting week for our little fluffballs! At five weeks old, the puppies are enjoying their puppy food, spending their days playing on the covered porch when the weather cooperates, and discovering just how much fun visitors can be. They even had a special outing to spend time with the 4-H kids on Monday, followed by an afternoon full of visitors later in the week! Those adorable little ears are beginning to stand up, giving each puppy a look all their own. Best of all, every one of these sweet babies now has a family eagerly awaiting their homecoming! As for Red Boy, who weighed in at 6.86 pounds on October 2, he spent part of his photo session getting acquainted with his bright red lizard, giving it a thorough sniff before settling in to show off his growing fluff and those precious puppy ears!
"Excuse me, Mr. Lizard… what exactly are you?"
"I'm keeping an eye on this little red fellow!"
"Just one more sniff. Gotta make sure he's friendly!"
"Okay, Mr. Lizard, I've got places to go!"
